PHOTOS OF THE DAY:
Congratulations to "VIC'S TRIVIA CONTEST" winner, Kenji Tajima! Kenji won our contest when he answered Vic's trivia question correctly:
What is the first full length studio recording by the band RUSH to feature Neil Peart's SABIAN` Paragon cymbals?
"Snakes & Arrows"
Kenji was the first randomly drawn correct entry and won our prize - a brand new Sabian 16" Paragon crash cymbal designed by Neil Peart. A huge RUSH fan, Kenji had no problem coming up with the correct answer to our question.
Originally from Japan, Kenji moved to the U.S. in 1986 and first saw a RUSH perform live in 1989 on their "Presto" tour. He is a professional drummer and makes a living playing live, doing sessions, and teaching. In fact, one of his students is his 16-year-old daughter.
In his formative years, Kenji studied at Musicians Institute of Technology, Berklee College of Music, and studied privately with Joe Franco, Casey Scheuerell and Garey Williams in Seattle. Since moving to NYC in 1995, he has performed with established artists playing rock, pop, funk, alternative, R&B/hip hop, folk, fusion, country, blues and heavy metal. He cites versatile drummers like Gregg Bissonette, Rod Morgenstein and Steve Gadd as major influences. He is also a visiting faculty member at iSschool of Music & Art in Long Island, New York, and teach drums privately in his home studio.
Although Kenji has not had an opportunity to visit Vic's in person, he is a regular customer of ours who frequently orders his two favorite drumsticks - Pro-Mark - Official Fan Page Billy Ward Signatures and Vic Firth Rod Morgenstein Signatures.
